Police offers caught a homeless 19 year old sleeping  outside of Gordon State college in a tent. Officers later found out that Fred Barley had ridden his siblings’s bike traveling for 6 hours through Georgia to register for classes. It wasn’t until he got there that he discovered that the college dorms weren’t going to open till August. And because of that, he had decided to live in a tent while he looked for a job, according to

Expecting to get a ticket for trespassing, Barley was surprised at what they did after they told him that he couldn’t stay in a campus shrubbery…

They booked him a room at a local motel for 2 nights.

In the midst of all the drama that has been revolving around the black community, Barley was grateful for the act of kindness done on the officers’ parts.

“The stuff that’s happening with police officers, I am black and he didn’t care what color I was. He just helped me, and that meant a lot,” he told the website(according to .

Barley’s story went viral after the wife of an officer had posted about it on a  community page Facebook page,catching the attention of many  people that offered to help the 19 year old fulfill his dreams of finishing college.  And that’s exactly what they did.

People donated a new bike, school supplies, and clothes to Barley, seen in the picture below ( via

The owner of a local pizzeria hired Barley as a dishwasher, with the mission in mind of teaching him how to make pizza one day. Others offered to finance his medical and dental needs. (via

And to top all of that, A GO-FUND account , titled “Success For Fred,”  was created on July 12 which has since raised $142,511 (out of the $150,000 goal)!

Fred Barley is truly the epitome in not letting his financial situation keep him from achieving his dreams! Good for him!
