A 71 year old woman and  a 17 year old tied the knot just three weeks after meeting at her son’s funeral.

I know what you’re thinking guys…how can this be??! Is that even legal? Technically it isn’t, being that he is a minor (but his mom approved it).

The writer of http://www.lovebscott.com, stated that it was love at first sight for 71 year old Almeda Errell whose eyes fell on Gary Hardwick across the room at a local church full of other mourners.

Almeda said: “I’d noticed this young man with a lovely smile during the service and thought, ‘Wow, this is the one.’ -http://www.lovebscott.com

She had never intended on finding love while she was mourning the death of her son. It kind of just happened.

I wasn’t looking for a young man, but Gary just came along,” Almeda , a supermarket assistant, said. “I just knew straight away that he was the one.” (http://www.lovebscott.com/)

Gary, on the other hand, stated that he had always had a thing for older woman, mentioning the crush he had on his teachers at just 8 years old.  Before marrying Almeda, he had been involved in a relationship with a 77 year old, that made him feel trapped.

“We were always fighting,’ Gary said.

“I fell into depression and was looking for a way out.” That’s when Lisa, his aunt, invited him to join other mourners for her husband Robert’s cremation. (http://www.lovebscott.com/)

He broke things off with the 77 year old, soon after the initial brief conversation where he shared his  condolences to her, whose son had  died from a seizure. Life hadn’t been easy for Almeda, who had been a widow after her husband of 43 years died, from diabetes in 2013 .

She hadn’t been the only one to feel that initial spark that ignited between them at the service, after he left his girlfriend. He later  confided in a woman named Lisa about his attraction towards Almeda and wanting to get to know her. This was when Lisa had invited them both to eat at a local Chuck E Cheese’s pizza restaurant for her daughter Evelyn’s ninth birthday, according to http://www.lovebscott.com.

It wasn’t long before the old sparks came flying back, as they talked and realized that they had more in common than they though; they  both were fond of Italian food and country music.

“That smile, those good looks. We were both too nervous to eat, and at one point he fell over his chair,” Almeda mentioned.-http://www.lovebscott.com

Before taking any new steps towards starting a possible relationship, Almeda asked him if her age was an issue to him, considering the 54 age difference between them.

He replied with his opinion that “age was just a number.”

Later that night, they shared their very first kiss, after Gary wooed her over with red roses and a bracelet for her birthday which had been a few days before. That night made her feel like a teenager again.

They started seeing his each other regularly, and it wasn’t long before Gary proposed to her (specifically 2 weeks after their first kiss). With the blessings of his mom, and grandmother ( who is 71 years old too), they  tied the knot in the gardens outside of Almeda’s house, ignoring the backlash he had  received from other family members.

Some of  them objected the relationship, because of  the age difference.

It took Gary only 6 days to arrange the wedding ceremony . This past October they said “I do.”

As a way of commemorating his love for her, he got tattoos of their named imprinted on his chest..

They currently reside in Sevierville, Tennessee , under the same roof as her 40 year old daughter Deanna and her two grand kids, Indianna and Aaron.

You can read more about Gary’s life journeys in his book titled This is Who I Am.

One thing that has been boggling my mind is..how does  Almeda’s two grand kids feel about having their “grandpa,” be so close to their age…It must be weird huh? Who else agrees?
