A Tennesse teeenager raised thousands of dollars after her parents had allegedly cut her off financially when they found out that she was dating a black man.
Through her GoFundMe account that Allie Dowdle had created herself, she was able to earn over $16,000 (as of Thursday night) , stating that her parents had refused to give her a boyfriend a chance just because of his race.
Her father, on the other hand, had claimed that her allegations was false, expressing (to NY DAILY NEWS) that although “dating a black man may not be his “preference” because of “issues” involved with biracial dating in the South.. that it is not his place to pick who she dates now that she is 18,” according to http://www.lovebscott.com/.
He continued by saying that race was never the issue here, stressing that he is not racist. Had she not kept this relationship and her past relationship a secret from him and wife, they would’ve been more willing to allow her to date whoever she wants.
He went on to share that he had stopped funding her way through college when it became apparent to him that she was spoiled and did this as a way of getting her to grow up.
With $16,595 raised so far, it seems as if a lot of folks are sympathizing with Allie and hate that her parents have put her through this situation.
One donator wrote “I HATE THIS TIME OF DISCRIMINATION THERE IS ONLY ONE RACE THE HUMAN ONE IF I COULD AFFORD TO DONATE $200,000.00 I WOULD GOOD LUCK GUYS.”
Another wrote “Good luck sweetheart! I wish you the best and hopefully your parents will open the eyes and hearts some day.”
Others stated that Allie should do what many college students do nowadays, WORK.
“There are less fortunate children who comes from low income homes trying to go to college.. This woman comes from a wealthy home and because she has her PRIVILEGED items taken away, she creates a Go Fund Me account that raised over 10,000! This is CRAZY! This isn’t about racism, this is a SPOILED GIRL WHO DOESN’T WANT TO WORK HER WAY THREW LIFE!”- Monique Mo’Asia Simpson said .
“Poor baby. What a manipulator! She doesn’t need a handout–she needs to move out, get a job, support herself, join the military for the GI Bill–and become an adult. Teach her how to fish, don’t give her a fish. Why her parents cut her off, whatever the real story is, is immaterial to the rest of the world. She needs to grow up. Racism is horrible, and should always be condemned. I, however, chose to send my dollars for charity to a hospital in Chad serving people with no other access to health care, not to a spoiled child to go to a private university,” Marc Smith wrote.
“Nope. No, ma’am. Are you parents wrong? Yes. Will you spend the rest of your life with this man? Probably not. My son has student loans, so can you. Get to work, honey! That’s what the American dream is all about!” Lewis A Lewis stressed.
